Project Design Summary: The current Public Works Facility located at 200 4th Street reached capacity in 2012 and needed to be relocated to a larger space to accommodate the operational equipment and materials storage needs for the ongoing growth of the City. In 2018 the City acquired an 11-acre industrial zoned parcel near the southeast corner of Interstate Drive and Wilmer Road. In 2019/2020 the City acquired design services and H Design Group completed a needs assessment. A programming report was submitted in 2021. In 2022 conceptual and preliminary design services were initiated and the City entered into a contract with Navigate Building Solutions to provide final design and construction management services.
Completion – July & August 2024
- Substantial completion of the Public Works Facility was achieved on July, 1 2024
- Furniture delivery and installation was completed on August 1, 2024
- A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on August 14, 2024 to celebrate the new Public Works Facility completion and Public Works staff completed move-in of existing equipment and personnel on the week of August 19
- The Water Division, Street Division, Facilities & Fleet Divisions and Public Works Administration are now fully housed and operating out of the new facility
- The new Wentzville Public Works Facility includes nearly 49,000 SF of office, warehouse, workshop, and fleet maintenance bay space within the main building along with a separate pull through wash bay building, salt storage building and brine production facility
- The Owner, Design and Contractor team were able to achieve a move in date nearly two months ahead of the original post bid schedule and upon final completion the project will come in at a projected $3.3 million under the post bid budget
April 2024
- Site concrete paving is ongoing, progressing from west to east within the site
- Site lighting has been installed
- Overhead crane and in-ground lift cassette have been installed in heavy duty repair bays
- Floor finishes are being installed throughout the building
- Painting and service fluid systems installation is ongoing through the fleet maintenance area
March 2024
- Pre-engineered metal building housing the Fleet maintenance bays has been insulated and overhead doors have been installed
- Installation of cabinet casework has started in all areas of the main building
- Lockers have been delivered and installed and installation of restroom fixtures has started
- Electrical and low voltage wiring is being pulled
- All free standing site canopies have been erected
- Salt Storage Building steel framing installation is complete and engineered fabric installation is in progress
- Final grading work and site paving work have started on the west side of the building
February 2024
- Site light poles and underground electric are being installed
- Drywall has been hung and taped in the majority of the conventional building sections and interior painting has begun
- Installation of drop ceiling grids is in progress and installation of interior light fixtures has begun
- Exterior masonry veneer is nearing completion and the majority of aluminum window framing and entrances have been installed
- The Fleet Maintenance Pre-Engineered Metal Building is under roof with wall panels installed
- Salt Storage building walls and floor slab have been completed
October 2023:
- The majority of site utilities have been completed
- Structural steel erection within the office areas has been completed and metal stud framing and decking is underway
- Masonry for the wash building and trash enclosures is nearing completion
May / June 2023:
- Project Groundbreaking Ceremony was held on May 10
- Contractor has continued mass site grading including some soil remediation
- Site utility installation is in progress
- Work has started for the excavation and pouring of concrete building footings
April 2023:
- LCS and their grading contractor mobilized on the site April 18, 2023
- Sediment and Erosion Control measures have been installed on the site
- The site has been cleared and mass grading has begun
March 2023:
- Board of Aldermen approval of construction contract award received on March 8, 2023
- Agreement with construction contractor LCS, LLC executed on March 21, 2023
- Notice to Proceed with the project issued to LCS, LLC on March 27, 2023. It is anticipated the contractor will begin mobilizing on the site in mid-April
January/February 2023:
- Final design has been completed and is in the process of being bid for contracted construction to begin early spring of this year. Construction bids are due Feb. 16, 2023
- Tree removal on larger parcels such as this City-owned lot, is regulated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the City is required to cut down the trees that need to be removed for this project by March 31, 2023. Tree removal is set to begin on Jan.23 and will be performed by in-house employees
2022:
- The City entered into a contract with Navigate Building Solutions to provide construction management services
- Final design documents, plans and specifications were produced by the design team
2020 & 2021: The City entered into a professional design services contract with H Design Group for design services. A Space Needs Assessment and Programming Report were completed followed by Conceptual Design plans and cost estimates.
