Meet Phil, our Senior Forestry Technician! Caring for thousands of trees across Wentzville’s parks starts with his tree inventory work, where he records details like health, size and species into a digital database. This monitoring is especially important because it helps identify trees that may need pruning, treatment, or other care to stay healthy and prevent issues from spreading.

If a tree becomes infected or infested, it can impact surrounding trees, so completing this process is essential for keeping our parks safe, healthy and thriving. Treatment can include pruning damaged or diseased branches, applying safe pest or disease treatments, improving soil and root care, or in some cases, removing the tree to protect others. Thanks to Phil’s behind-the-scenes efforts, Wentzville’s parks will continue to grow strong and vibrant for years to come. 🌳

If a neighbor, friend or family member were to suffer a sudden cardiac arrest, would you know what to do? In this one-hour class, St. Charles County Ambulance District team members will discuss the science behind cardiac arrest and why good chest compressions are so important. Other topics will include how to use an AED to provide a shock to the patient's heart. Though younger children may not be able to achieve proper compression depth, it’s never too early to initiate the conversation so all ages are welcome to attend.

Today we’re shining the spotlight on our Recreation Supervisor – Ice Operations, Rick Pratt, as he celebrates a remarkable milestone: retirement after 18 years at this rink!

Rick began his journey when the facility was known as the Lindenwood Ice Arena. When the City of Wentzville purchased the rink in 2019, the name changed but Rick remained the steady force behind the ice. His expertise in ice maintenance, programs and best practices have been invaluable. He trained staff on daily operations, (including driving the ice resurfacer) and set the standard for how the facility runs today.

The staff that works with him each day sees the value Rick places on his relationships with guests in his ability to greet so many of them by name. His impact on the skaters that stepped on the ice over the years was made evident in a very public way when a reel he agreed to star in went viral last year. What started as a way to bring awareness about the Wentzville Ice Arena through a trend took a heartwarming turn. The comments were flooded with people who recognized him as a constant at the ice arena throughout their youth. To celebrate his impact, we have posted a link to the reel in the comments section. 👇

Rick’s dedication, humor, and knowledge have left a lasting mark on this community. He will be deeply missed at the Wentzville Ice Arena and we wish him nothing but happiness in his retirement.
