How was the facility name selected?
The Wentzville Parks and Recreation Advisory Board approved a process for formally naming the new multigenerational recreation facility in September 2019. A naming steering committee provided a list of six potential names to the Wentzville Parks and Recreation Advisory Board in November 2019; the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board recommended a list of two names to be forwarded to the Wentzville Board of Aldermen.
In December 2019, a community survey was conducted to select the final name for the facility. The following month, the Wentzville Board of Aldermen approved the facility name to be the "Wentzville Community Center."
However, "WCC" became trademarked by the Wentzville Community Club and due to legal concerns, it was recommended that the name be changed. It was renamed "Wentzville Rec Center" by the Board of Aldermen in March of 2021.
