Community Development Grant Program
Community Development receives grant funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), to conduct the Community Development Block Grant Program under Title I of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 as amended. The goal of the program is to provide financial assistance for the rehabilitation of private properties. The Home Improvement Loan Program is available to residents eligible and desirous of receiving said funds for the purpose of making repairs to owner-occupied property.
Through an allocation of CDBG funds from the federal government, the County funds a Home Improvement Loan Program, Emergency Repair Program, a Homeless Prevention Program (utility and rent assistance) and a Transportation Services Program. These programs are available to income-eligible residents living in the unincorporated St. Charles County, and the cities of Cottleville, Lake St. Louis, New Melle, St. Peters, Weldon Spring and Wentzville. First Time Home Buyers Program
In 2005 The City of Wentzville entered into an agreement with St. Louis County and other Municipalities to form a Consortium. The Consortia pools population totals when applying for Federal Grant opportunities to make them available in each jurisdiction. The City has contracted to offer down payment assistance to first time home buyers in the form of up to a $10,000 loan. Zero % interest loans take second position at closing however, upon future sale of the property, grants must be returned.
The First Time Home Buyers brochure offers guidance for eligibility and participation. Candidates seeking approval for down payment assistance must apply through one of the housing counseling agencies listed on the flyer.
