Building Safety

Building Safety

The City of Wentzville recognizes that our growth and strength depends on the safety and economic value of the homes, buildings and infrastructure that serve our citizens, both in everyday life and in times of natural disaster. The structural integrity of these buildings can be achieved through the vigilance of the building safety officials, in conjunction with the design professionals and the people of the construction industry. The building safety inspectors in the City are members of the International Code Council, the organization that brings together the experts who work to create and implement the building codes that ensure the safety, health and welfare of the public.

Building Safety Month 2019
No Code. No Confidence

In May 2019, the City of Wentzville is participated in the 39th annual Building Safety Month, a worldwide campaign presented by the International Code Council, its members and partners to promote building safety. First observed in 1980, Building Safety Month raises awareness about critical safety issues from structural to fire prevention, plumbing and mechanical systems, and energy efficiency.

Building codes and the officials who enforce them are making our families and communities safer and more resilient. Homes and buildings that are built in compliance with building safety codes result in resilient structures that minimize the risks of death, injury and property damage. In the wake of a disastrous tornado season, fires and potential earthquakes, building safety is even more important. Building safety affects everyone, and modern, updated building codes save lives.

This year’s themes were: Preparing for Disasters: Build Strong, Build Smart, Ensuring A Safer Future Through Training and Education, Securing Clean, Abundt Water for All Communities, Construction Professinals and Homeowners: Partner in Safety and  Innovations in Building Safety.
